Coronado is Spanish for 'the crowned one", and thusly it is nicknamed The Crown City. This island town, located in San Diego Bay, is about 7.5 square miles. From here, you can get to San Diego simply by crossing the San Diego-Coronado Bridge. Or head south to Imperial Beach by hitting California's highway 75. The Coronado peninsula protects San Diego Bay from the Pacific Ocean by a long, narrow strip of land called the Silver Strand. The northern end of the Silver Strand expands to become Coronado and NAS North Island. Coronado is the site of the famous Hotel del Coronado.
